Free Basic Hat Crocheted Pattern

Use a size H hook and worsted weighted yarn.
 

All hat sizes are marked in BOLD.

The directions that are separate from the numbered rounds are ONLY added if you are wanting that size as the finished product.  For example, if you want size 18m-3yrs then you would do rounds 1-7 and then the added 18m-3yrs directions.  

*NOTE*  If you wish to have 0-3 month, do the first six rounds (same as for the 3-6 months) BUT use a size G hook.

• Round 1:  Ch. 2.  8 sc in the first chain.  Pull it tight. (I do not join my rounds.  You can if it's easier but it tends to leave a jagged line down the back of the hat).
• Round 2:  2 hdc in each stitch (16 total stitches)
• Round 3:  *1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (24 stitches)
• Round 4:  *1 hdc in next two st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (32 stitches)
• Round 5:  *1 hdc in next three st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (40 stitches)
• Round 6:  *1 hdc in next four st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (48 stitches) FOR 3-6 months: Stop the increase rounds here

For 6-12 months:  * 1 hdc in next 11st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (52 stitches)

• Round 7:  *1 hdc in next five st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (56 stitches) FOR 1-2 years: Stop the increase rounds here

For 18m -3 years:  *1 hdc in the next 27 st, 2 hdc in the next* Repeat around (58 stitches)

For 3-5 years:  *1 hdc in the next 13 st, 2  hdc in the next* Repeat around (60 stitches)

• Round 8 :  *1sc in next six st, 2 hdc in the next* Repeat around (64 stitches) For 5-8 years: Stop the increase rounds here

For 8-12 years:  * 1 sc in the next 15 st, 2sc in the next* Repeat around (68 stitches)

• Round 9:  *1 hdc in next seven st, 2 hdc in next* Repeat around (72 stitches) For Adult

For sizes 0-3monthes, 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 1-2 years: Do 10 more rounds of hdc’s of the ending stitch amount. ie. 6-12 months will do 10 more rounds of 52.

For sizes 18m-3 years, 3-5 years, 5-8 years, 8-12 years and Adult: Do 11 more rounds of hdc’s of the ending stitch amount.  ie 18m- 3 years will do 11 more rounds of 58

**I like to end the beanies two single crochet rows that includes two decreases.  That way it tightens just a little around the brim for the best fit**

SC Round 1: Do a single crochet decrease twice on this round, half way through, and then again at the end.

SC Round 2: sc all the way around.
 Tie in your ends and you are all finished.
