New Year's Eve
Toddler-hood strikes again!!!
Our neighbors had invited our family over to bring in the New Year. Of course I had to reply with, “We’d love to come, but we may have to leave early!” That’s the typical response when you have little ones, right?
YAY WE’RE GOING TO A PARTY
Lilly, my youngest, goes to bed normally at 7pm. With the party starting at 7:30, we decided to wiggle her sleep schedule around to accommodate. When I had woken her from her nap, she felt warm to me. I pulled out the thermometer….placed it under her arm….and waited for the beeps.

BOO, WE HAVE TO STAY HOME
My poor baby. Then I proceeded to write our friend and apologize that we would most likely not make it.
Ashley, 5 years old, was sad that we were not going to see some of her friends. I looked online at things to do with kids on New Year’s Eve and the biggest one is “MAKE CONFETTI TO THROW". Ummm….No thank you. If you know my child, you know this is not an option, unless we want to be finding little pieces of paper in nooks and crannies for the next year! Santa was good to Ashley and brought her lots of craft items. My plan was to make sure Lilly was down for the night and then do a creative activity with Ashley.
Lilly was put down early for bed at 6:00. She then woke up at 8:30 wide awake and her fever had broken due to Tylenol.
YAY WE’RE GOING TO A PARTY!!!!
As parents of young children we have to be flexible. Their happiness and health is always our first priority. No matter what plans we make, they will change for better or for worse.
Whether you rang in the New Year at 9pm because that’s your child’s bed time, or you were one of the lucky ones who had a babysitter for leaving the roost, I hope you had a fun and safe New Year’s Eve.
Have a great 2014 from my family to yours!
