Indianapolis Children's Museum

If you are looking for a place to travel to with your kids, and you even remotely close to Indianapolis, I highly suggest you make a trip to the Indianapolis Children's Museum.  It is over 400,000 square feet and spread out over 29 acres.   It is THE largest children's museum in the world.

I have to say, when my husband told me he got a job in Indiana, I was like Indi- who?  Okay, so yes I knew where Indiana was, but I did not know ANYTHING about what was in this state.  The town we live in is an awesome college town, that I had no idea about before moving here.  Despite there being quite a bit to do in our town itself, Indianapolis is only about an hour away.  Easy peesy!  There's a lot to do in Indy as well, and I'm sure even though we've lived her about 8 years now, we haven't even scrapped the surface.  Hands down, the two favorite places that our kids love to go to, is the zoo, and the Children's Museum.

They are EXPENSIVE though.  Well for us anyways, because....we're cheap. LOL!  Usually, when we go to the museum, we'll go once, maybe twice a year and spend the whole day there.  That is a lot of walking, a lot of engagement for the kids, and a LOT of yelling "come back, wait your turn" and all the other fun parental phrases!

So this past Christmas, when my father asked what he could buy for the kids, I mentioned a membership to the Children's Museum.

And that's what he got us!

So for one year, we can go as many times as we want, and for as long as we want.  It's great, because we don't feel as if we have to get it all done in one day!  We don't have to spend 6-7 hours (just writing that makes me tired) chasing our children.  We can go, do a floor or two, and after 2-3 hours, come home.  Knowing we can come back next month, and do some more, makes it so less stressful!
So, thanks Dad, for one of the best gifts my kids could have gotten!

LEGO Canada

Anyways, we went recently, for the 3rd time this year, and as always, the kids had a blast.  This place is just so awesome.  It's perfect for kids of all ages.  My husband and I are able to split up for short amounts of time so he can go with the oldest where she can actually do some hands on learning experiences geared towards her age, and I can stay with the little ones where they can get in their own learning experiences.  EVERYTHING is pretty much hands on, which is perfect for my kids.  They want to hit buttons, see how things move, and play with pretend artifacts.

The Indianapolis Children's Museum, is always changing out their new themes also.  Right now they had a huge circus room that the kids loved!

Playing pretend in the ice cream shoppe

Doing some important scientific research

Holy cow!  My 4 year old is amazing!

Not to be outdone, my 8 year old is showing off her muscles!

Playing around on the circus ladders

He thinks his Daddy is hilarious

  9. We have a Children's Natural Science Museum in Nashville too and it's honestly as much fun for the adults as the kids. I've never seen anything like the Circus Room though - kinda neat that your museum has that since the "greatest Show on Earth" has gone the way of the dinos.

    1. I have a feeling that's why they did that theme. My kids like going to these hands on museums so we try to check them out wherever we go. I'm sure we'll hit up the Nashville one at some point!
