Indianapolis Children's Museum
If you are looking for a place to travel to with your kids, and you even remotely close to Indianapolis, I highly suggest you make a trip to the Indianapolis Children's Museum. It is over 400,000 square feet and spread out over 29 acres. It is THE largest children's museum in the world.
I have to say, when my husband told me he got a job in Indiana, I was like Indi- who? Okay, so yes I knew where Indiana was, but I did not know ANYTHING about what was in this state. The town we live in is an awesome college town, that I had no idea about before moving here. Despite there being quite a bit to do in our town itself, Indianapolis is only about an hour away. Easy peesy! There's a lot to do in Indy as well, and I'm sure even though we've lived her about 8 years now, we haven't even scrapped the surface. Hands down, the two favorite places that our kids love to go to, is the zoo, and the Children's Museum.
They are EXPENSIVE though. Well for us anyways, because....we're cheap. LOL! Usually, when we go to the museum, we'll go once, maybe twice a year and spend the whole day there. That is a lot of walking, a lot of engagement for the kids, and a LOT of yelling "come back, wait your turn" and all the other fun parental phrases!
So this past Christmas, when my father asked what he could buy for the kids, I mentioned a membership to the Children's Museum.
And that's what he got us!
So for one year, we can go as many times as we want, and for as long as we want. It's great, because we don't feel as if we have to get it all done in one day! We don't have to spend 6-7 hours (just writing that makes me tired) chasing our children. We can go, do a floor or two, and after 2-3 hours, come home. Knowing we can come back next month, and do some more, makes it so less stressful!
So, thanks Dad, for one of the best gifts my kids could have gotten!
The Indianapolis Children's Museum, is always changing out their new themes also. Right now they had a huge circus room that the kids loved!
Playing pretend in the ice cream shoppe |
Doing some important scientific research |
Holy cow! My 4 year old is amazing! |
Not to be outdone, my 8 year old is showing off her muscles! |
Playing around on the circus ladders |
He thinks his Daddy is hilarious |
That looks super fun!! I haven't been to a good kid/science museum in years! They were always my favorite thing to do too! We don't have any good ones here. But now I know a place we need to travel to and a place to visit while we are there! Super fun!

ReplyDeleteWe love coming here for family days. I love that they change the themes so there is always something new. Now they have the Hot Wheels exhibit which we still need to check out!

It's HUGE. 4 floors of fun!
Deletewe have a children's museum in Atlanta too! we went their with my niece and nephew, they loved it!
ReplyDeleteIf I ever go down there I'm sure we'll check it out! We like to visit local zoos and museums wherever we go visit.
DeleteWe have a Children's Natural Science Museum in Nashville too and it's honestly as much fun for the adults as the kids. I've never seen anything like the Circus Room though - kinda neat that your museum has that since the "greatest Show on Earth" has gone the way of the dinos.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that's why they did that theme. My kids like going to these hands on museums so we try to check them out wherever we go. I'm sure we'll hit up the Nashville one at some point!
DeleteMy friend takes her daughter to this museum all the time! It looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a popular one! It's always crowded no matter which day we go.
